Cochin Port Day-2023 celebrated
Cochin Port day was celebrated on 26.05.2023 in commemoration of arrival of the first ship to the modern port of Cochin. The first ship, SS Padma entered the inner harbour through the widened and deepened Cochin Gut on 26th May 1928.
The events held at Samudrika Hall, and Hotel Taj Malabar, Willingdon Island were presided over by Dr. M. Beena lAS, Chairperson, Cochin Port Authority. Shri. Vikas Narwal IAS, Deputy Chairperson delivered the keynote address. Shri. T.Prabhu, IOFS, Chief Vigilance Officer, was also present during the function. The Chief Guest of the day Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways & Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India, graced the occasion through virtual message.
Shri Jaideep P., IRS, Commissioner of Customs, Cochin and Cmde Rajesh Kumar Yadav, Naval Officer-ln-Charge, Southern Naval Command, were the guests of honour at Samudrika hall.
A Business Session held at Taj Malabar at 6.30 pm was honoured by Shri Binu K.S., President, Kerala Steamer Agents Association and Shri Suraj Muraleedharan, President, Cochin Customs Brokers Association. Major import/export performers were also honoured during the function.
The functions were also attended by Capt. Joseph J. Alapat, Deputy Conservator, Shri Vipin R. Menoth, Traffic Manager, Smt. C. Premakumari, Secretary, Shri V. Thuraipandian, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Smt. Rema E., Chief Engineer, Shri Malla Srinivasa Rao, FA & CAO, Dr. K. I. Muthukoya, Chief Medical Officer (i/c), Cochin Port Authority, Shri Neeraj Kumar Patel, Deputy Commandant, CISF, representatives of the Trade Unions, employees and pensioners of the port & their families.
Awards were given to outstanding employees and also to winners of various competitions held as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav during 2022-23. This was followed by various entertainment programs by the employees and family members and music programme by playback singer Ms. Chitra Arun and team.
‘MV Lakshadweep Sea', passenger ship berthed at BTP Jetty was visited by hundreds of general public.
